Michael Sullivan, LSW/LMSW
Over the last 25 years I have been granted the opportunity to work with amazing individuals, couples and families who were searching for well-being. As we attempt to balance our personal and professional lives it is so very important to have a supportive and nurturing guide. Those I have worked with say I am caring, compassionate, open-minded and that I am able to create an inclusive and safe environment for growth and reflection.
I specialize in working with those living with mood disorders (principally anxiety, panic, phobias, fears and depression), substance use disorders and traumatic brain injury. I also support those seeking help with stabilization with academic and professional stressors, grief, loss and end of life evolution.
My approach is holistic, positive and relational, utilizing diverse intervention methods. I have extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Wilderness/Nature Based Treatment—all the while focusing on the individual and their connection with overall well-being, interpersonal relationships and community.
I received my Bachelor of Science (BS) from The Pennsylvania State University (WE ARE!) in Health and Human Development in 1996 with a focus on Experiential/Outdoor Education and my Graduate Degree in Social Work (MSW) from the Greater Rochester Collaborative (Nazareth College and SUNY Brockport) Master of Social Work Program in 2004 with a focus on Family and Community Practice.
I have a love for trail running, hiking, backpacking, kayaking and biking (gravel and mountain). If I am not traveling with my family, reading or attending live music you can usually find me cooking and eating in my kitchen.
